Press Release - What is Evolved HSPA

Evolved High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) which is also known as HSPAor Internet HSPA is a technical standard for wireless, broadband telecommunication. Evolved HSPA is enhanced version of 3G HSPA. This new technology is introduced so that speed of basic 3G can be increased, evolved HSPA amplify the data transfer rate. Evolved HSPA is capable of downlink the speed as fast as 42Mbps to mobile devices. Evolved HSPA is achieved with different combinations of cells and antenna techniques like MIMO (multiple-input and multiple-output) and higher order modulation (64QAM). The technique is known as Dual Cell.

In the recent developments of HSPA, 84Mbps peak rate is going to be achieved with mobile devices defined in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) Release 10 using antenna techniques.
The need for the introduction of evolved HSPA arose because users want that they can download the data at higher speed and can browse for unlimited data. Many applications are starting so fulfill the need of faster data transfer and low latency level.

3GPP Release 7: This release includes downlink MIMO operation with higher order modulation. 3GPP Release 7 provide with 64 QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) uplink modulations and 16 QAM downlink modulation. It also introduces protocol so that more and more users can be supported.

3GPP Release 8: This release gives dual carrier operation with better downlink MIMO operations and much higher modulation scheme. With that it is improved so that new applications can be used in 3G and further requirements can also be fulfilled.
Evolved HSPA Highlight Features: Many new features have been added in evolved HSPA so that the performance can be improved. Those features include MIMO, Higher Order Modulation, Continuous Packet Connectivity, Layer 2 Protocol Enhancement and Enhanced Cell-Fach Operation.

MIMO help in evolved HSPA in those places when multiple antennas are not available but higher signal strength is present. In these cases order of modulation can be increased. This can be achieved if signal levels are high otherwise error can occur in transfer of data. Evolved HSPA provides continuous connectivity even if data traffic is high. For achieving continuous connectivity HS-DSCH and EODCH channels are established.  With that connectivity is always provided whether there is any activity or not.
Future revisions of evolved HSPA support up to 168 Mbit/s using multiple carriers and up to 672Mbps is proposed for 3GPP Release 11 using advanced antenna techniques. Evolved HSPA also introduces an all IP architecture for those networks where base stations are connected to IP based backhauls and then to ISP’s routers.

Evolved HSPA and LTE:  The latest modification in HSPA services is known as LTE (long term evolution). LTE use OFDM instead of W-CDMA which is used for UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+. LTE provides you with higher data traffic rates on mobiles with 4G systems. Latest LTE standards include radio interface architecture, a physical layer, access procedures, MBMS, LTE transmission protocols and flexible bandwidth etc. LTE enables wider bandwidth and OFDM modulation enables data transmission for multiple users. Some benefits of using LTE are as followed.

It boost the data capacity, increase the bandwidth up-to 10 MHz or more, it can easily operate with 3G through LTE/3G multimode devices, provide a solution for unpaired TDD spectrum and multiple well known ecosystem operators and vendors support this system.

Evolved HSPA is undoubtedly the main operator of massive growth in mobile broadband. Many HSPA networks are now working so that a wider coverage area can be provided to users in different locations. The latest development that is needed to made in evolved HSPA technology is to improve the standard so that IMT-A requirements can be fulfilled. This concern is making high bandwidth and high efficiency. With that improvement with RRC state machine is needed. With the help of this improvement Smartphone traffic can be handles more efficiently and it also increase the experience of users but reducing the resources that are consumed.
